                            Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar found dead in Delhi.


 
On 17 January 2014, a day after the Twitter controversy, Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in room number 345 of The Leela Palace Hotel in the Chanakyapuri area of New Delhi. After coming back to the hotel room, an attendant told Shashi Tharoor that she had been sleeping for a long time. He then inspected Sunanda and realized that she was dead. He called his personal assisstant who in turn immediately called the local police. Delhi Police recovered Pushkar's body from the hotel and sent it for postmortem. According to initial reports, police said the cause of Sunanda's death seemed to be suicide. Police sources said to media that there were no visible marks of injury on her body. Sources have ruled out any foul play in the cause of her Death. Sunanda had hinted about her death, hours before her body was found.


Sunanda Pushkar (January 1, 1962 – January 17, 2014) was a businessperson and spouse of the Indian Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor. She was a sales director in the Dubai-based TECOM Investments, and a co-owner of Rendezvous Sports World.

Early life

Sunanda Pushkar was born in a family of landlords and army officers native to Bomai. She was a daughter of Lt. Col. Pushkar Nath Dass, who retired from the army in 1983. She has two brothers, one of whom works for a bank; the other is in the Army. The family moved out of Bomai, after their house was set afire by militants in 1990. She graduated from the Government College for Women in Srinagar, where she studied during 1986-88.
